The Log Cabin quilt block consists of light and dark fabric strips sewn together at right angles, representing the walls of a log cabin. The center square, usually of red cloth, represents the hearth of the home. The fireplace was used for cooking and providing warmth and light to the cabin, and was therefore the gathering place for the family. Quilt historians have found that the Log Cabin block design became popular in 1863, when the Union army was raising money for the war effort by raffling quilts made by those who stayed behind to raise children, maintain the farm, and keep the home fires burning.

Cost: $ 55.00
The Maxwell Tartan is created by weaving 2 colors together -- red for the background (base) and black or very dark green for the main plaid. You will also need a "merge" fabric to blend the 2 together. Options for fabric selection are contained in the book. The class will focus on the Sport Lap quilt, 48" x 48". If you would prefer to make the Square Full Quilt (85" x 85") or another quilt in the book, please discuss with Anne prior to class. Refer to the book for additional yardage needed for the project of your choice.

Add extra warmth and comfort to a quilt for an infant, child or older adult by using flannel in the top or backing. In this 2-part class, Nola will lead you through the finer points of using flannel to piece your top, add straight-line quilting, and finish with the perfect binding.

By layering fabric "repeats" and cutting them into specific shapes, you too can make this awesome quilt! For the class, you will select your own fabrics, with the help of the instructor or shop staff (if desired). As you can see, it's an excellent project for combining unique and interesting fabrics in diamond and hexagon shapes.
