302: Introduction to Free Motion Quilting

Learn how to quilt your own quilts. Mary W. will teach you the basics of free motion quilting with fun exercises to increase your confidence and expertise.
Skill Level:
Beginner
Requirements:
A class handout will be provided, but you'll need to bring the following: Pen/pencil and paper to add notes to class handout. Darning or free motion foot or Bernina stitch regulator (BSR). #80/12 topstitch needle in your machine. Five 12' x 12" quilt sandwiches consisting of top fabric, batting and backing. Use a solid or tone-on-tone fabric for the top so you can see your stitches, cotton or cotton-blend batting, and any fabric you want on the back -- this is a good way to get rid of that ugly fabric you wish you hadn't bought. Baste the sandwiches with either safety pins or 505 spray before you come to class. Fabric marking pen/pencil (highly recommend the Frixion pen). Cotton thread that contrasts with the tops of your quilt sandwiches. "Supreme Slider" (optional, but really great to have). Sewing machine in good working order with the ability to drop or cover the feed dogs, power cord, foot pedal, slide-on table (if you have one), bobbins, extra needles and machine manual (if not a Bernina). Pincushion and straight pins (long fine ones work best).
