Edge to Edge Quilting in the Hoop with Venitta C. McCall

Do you want to quilt your quilts? Beginners or Experts, this class uses your embroidery machine to hoop and quilt your quilt. Class will teach you techniques to hoop and quilt sandwich to make a seamless look on your quilting designs and techniques to quilt specific sections of your quilt.  You Must have an embroidery machine with a minimum hoop capability of 5” x 7” (BERNINA Large Oval Hoop).  Bring your largest hoops and if you have the new clamp and/or magnetic hoops, please bring—let’s learn to use all of our resources!

If you have a BERNINA Pro machine that is able to read BQM format designs, please go to: https://quilting.oesd.com/digital-designs/edge-to-edge/  and download the free design, Spring Green. We will use that design in class to highlight the BQM features. If you do not have a machine that uses the BQM format—no problem, we will use the built-in designs on your machine.  

We will work as a class to complete edge to edge table runner that you will receive as part of your class fee.  And, I will demo (and you may want to quilt with me)  endless quilting on a quilt border, quilting a corner motif, quilting quilt corner connected to a border, and quilting on a square, triangle, rectangle, diamond, parallelogram – YES, all on the same quilt sample that is provided as a kit for this class.  You will take home a complete collection of quilting samples/techniques for quilts, clothing, and craft projects.

Please bring a lunch and a drink so we can have a working lunch. Bring a quilt that you would like to quilt with your embroidery machine, and we can discuss over lunch how to quilt it and review designs and techniques.  Feel free to hoop at least two layers of heavy weight stabilizer (cutaway or tear away) and stitch out a design or two that you are eager to use on your quilt and we can “play” with placement and techniques.

Class supply list:

Embroidery machine with module, foot pedal, power cord, embroidery foot (#15, #24, #26, #26L), embroidery bobbin thread (at least 2 filled), thread snips, paper scissors, paper/notebook with pen/pencil for notetaking , and large oval hoop with template. Machine cleaned and oiled with new 80/12 Microtex (quilting, embroidery/sharp/topstitch) needle, neutral cotton thread (50 wt.) cream, beige, gray, or tan
