Embroidery Techniques (2:30pm-5:30pm) (January 18, 2022 class postponed)

Learn new embroidery techniques while working on different embroidery centered projects.
Every other month we will explore a new technique with a corresponding project.

Skill Level: Beginner
Skill Details: January 18- Amelie Scott's "Notion Organizers" in the hoop. Finish an embroidered in the hoop organizer purse, including an in the hoop zipper insertion. A minimum 6.2" X 10.5" hoop required.
$30/class and ($25) CD plus supplies for project.

March 15- Modern Petals Tiling Scene, OESD Embroidery Collection- Embroider tiles to be sewn together to form a 'scene' flowered quilt. You should be able to finish 4 in the class and learn how to sew them together. Embroidering all 16.

Embroider tiles to be sewn together to form a ?scene? flowered quilt. You should be able to finish 4 in the class and learn how to sew them together. Embroidering all 16 will make approximately a 22? x 22? quilt.

Supplies needed:
OESD Modern Petals Tiling Scene Embroidery CD
Medium weight tear away stabilizer
1/3 yd of 10 different colors
2/3 yd fabric for backing
? yd fabric for binding
2/3 yd or 24? square cotton batting
Isacord Embroidery threads to match/coordinate
505 Temporary Spray Adhesive
Curved safety pins
Thread for piecing
Thread for quilting if desired
Instructor Bio: Kris Califano
Kris began working at COTTONWOOD in September 2021. She has been sewing for over 50 years, quilting for 30. She attended Florida State University where she earned her B.S. in Fashion Design & Merchandising and later Owner of 3 sewing and quilt shops for over 10 years in Florida. Kris has extensive knowledge of machines, as well as sewing and quilting techniques. She enjoys sharing her knowledge of techniques, as well as her expertise on the products she uses and sells. Students enjoy the classes and feel a sense of accomplishment as well as an understanding of techniques that can be used in future projects. Kris is an educator for the Rhinestone Genie and a Certified National Educator for Pam Damour, The Decoration Diva. She is an award-winning quilter and holds other certifications in quilting education as well as being a Jenny Haskins Academy of Accreditation Embroidery Teacher. She is an amusing and talented instructor and salesperson, her passion and enthusiasm are highly contagious. During the summer months you may find Kris sailing, teaching sailing and competing in sailing regattas in Florida and Virginia. Kris has recently moved to the Charlottesville area and is looking forward to meeting COTTONWOODs' clientele as well as sharing her knowledge on the sales floor and in the classroom. Kris has 2 grown children and a "polar bear" Labrador named Skipper.
