Jelly Roll Rug - 2 sessions (10:15am-1:15pm)

Come join the fun and learn how to create this fun, colorful rug.  Grab a "Jelly Roll", batting and your sewing machine and join us!
We'll be learning the techniques to create a rug and/or placemat.  Rug is approximately 30" X 44".
Easy skill level and lots of fun!  We'll be using the 1/4" Piecing foot and the Edge-Joining foot, while making necessary adjustments to facilitate the heavier sewing.

Skill Details:
Requirements: Jelly Roll Rug Pattern
One Jelly Roll of fabrics, 2 1/2" wide
1/4" patchwork Foot #37 or #57 (if you have one very helpful)
Edge Stitch foot #10 , Stitch In the ditch flanged foot (if you don't have one, this is a great project to justify it -buy one)
Zigzag throat plate and zig zag foot
Wonder clips or pins
Stiletto, seam ripper
90/14 Jeans or topstitch needles
2 spools of thread variegated is nice or complementary 1,000 yards total
Wind 6 bobbins before 2nd class
Basal Roll of precut batting are available in 2-1/2" wide , 2 for a larger rug
1 spool and 1 bobbin with neutral thread

Basic sewing supplies:
Zigzag sewing machine in good working order with accessories
power cords
foot control.
Instructor Bio: Kris Califano began working at COTTONWOOD in September 2021. She has been sewing for over 50 years, quilting for 30. She attended Florida State University where she earned her B.S. in Fashion Design & Merchandising and later Owner of 3 sewing and quilt shops for over 10 years in Florida. Kris has extensive knowledge of machines, as well as sewing and quilting techniques. She enjoys sharing her knowledge of techniques, as well as her expertise on the products she uses and sells. Students enjoy the classes and feel a sense of accomplishment as well as an understanding of techniques that can be used in future projects. Kris is an educator for the Rhinestone Genie and a Certified National Educator for Pam Damour, The Decoration Diva. She is an award-winning quilter and holds other certifications in quilting education as well as being a Jenny Haskins Academy of Accreditation Embroidery Teacher. She is an amusing and talented instructor and salesperson, her passion and enthusiasm are highly contagious. During the summer months you may find Kris sailing, teaching sailing and competing in sailing regattas in Florida and Virginia. Kris has recently moved to the Charlottesville area and is looking forward to meeting COTTONWOODs' clientele as well as sharing her knowledge on the sales floor and in the classroom. Kris has 2 grown children and a "polar bear" Labrador named Skipper.
