Create a 3 block wall-hanging as you learn the basics of hand applique. We will start with a simple heart with all the basic elements in the first session and then progress to the traditional house block with lots of corners and angles. The 3rd session will include layering and reverse applique.

Requirements: | 3 12" background squares, may be the same fabric or different for each block. 8" square for heart applique 9" square for house applique 6" square for flower vase 2" x 5" scrap for tulip tips 3" x 6" scrap for tulips 4" x 5" scrap for leaves 3" x 3" scrap for stems 2" x 2" scrap for heart Not required for class, but needed to finish the wall-hanging 1/2 yard inner border and binding 1/3 yard outer border; may be the same fabric as background squares, in which case, you would need a total of 3/4 yard Basic hand sewing supplies: Thread scissors and/or fabric scissors Paper of craft scissors Straw, milliner or sharp needles Thread to blend with applique fabrics Basting thread or contrasting thread Applique pins - optional, but helpful |

Instructor Bio: | Shop Owner Mary began hand embroidery projects at age 5, and made her first quilt at 12. She comes by it naturally, learning from her mother, Helen, who was an avid sewer, weaver, appliquer and bobbin-lace maker. Mary lives with her husband of 39 years, Buddy, at Lake Monticello outside of Charlottesville. |
