How To Make Dresdens - (12:30pm-4:30pm)


Fabric:  Background (1yard), sashing (fat quarter - 1/2 yard) and assorted fabrics for Dresden petals & centers (fat quarters, layer cakes or yardage).  Pieces of fusible and/or non-fusible interfacing.

Tools:  Any Dresden rulers you have (various degree widths); any favorite thread and/or foot for machine applique.

Optional: If you have the Prairie Pointer Pressing Template by Susan Cleveland, please bring it with you.  If you have books or patterns on Dresdens bring the along for reference.

It is a technique class to show how to make Dresdens, so I did not include a specific pattern or book.

I plan to cover:
-various types of Dresden petals - pointed ones and rounded ones
-various methods to make the center circle, as well as how to make a square center, or use a button
-how to make double pointed petals, so the center shows the background fabric
-how to change the width and length of petals depending on what markings are used on Dresden rulers
-how to calculate the number of petals using different degree rulers
-tips on how to sew the petals together to get a flat circle
-tips on how to applique the Dresden to the background
-examples of other uses for Dresden petals - wreaths, trees, butterflies, dragonflies, dresses, flowers, houses, etc.
Requirements: Rotary Cutter

Sewing Machine in good working condition
power cord
foot pedal
bobbins
needles
All Purpose Sewing Foot
1/4" Foot
open toe or applique foot
Thread to blend with fabric

Basic Sewing kit:
