Let's Make a Machine Embroidered Wall Hanging

The beauty of this class is you can adapt it to your taste and size and color scheme.  We will prep fabric with stabilizers for optimum results and learn how to press and cut the designs and add sashing/border fabrics to create a beautiful quilt for a gift or to hang in your home.  Students will need to pick an embroidery collection with approximately 6 designs and some smaller motifs for border blocks.  You can choose a design collection with fewer designs and  duplicate blocks.  The quilt will have six main embroidery blocks but you can adapt the concept to make a size of your own choice.

Supply List:

Embroidery Machine and Module,
Hoop or hoops to accommodate the design,
Machine power cord
Bobbins (neutral color for embroidery),
Embroidery and piecing needles.

For quilt assembly (2nd session) you will need basic piecing supplies: pins, scissors, seam ripper, rotary cutter and 6 x 24 ruler to cut sashing and border strips.

Please have your fabric for your embroidery designs picked out and purchased before class. We can use class time to pick out sashing, border, binding and backing fabrics. I like to wait until the designs are finished to pick these fabrics. You will learn how to determine block size and calculate fabric needed for sashing and binding in class.

You will need embroidery designs. Here are a few OESD collections that will work well. I used Alluring Butterflies by Ann Lauer #80344. These collections (or similar) will work well: Believe in Unicorns #80331; Catitude #80172; Horsen Around #80318; Irresistible Iris #80100; Everglow Tula Pink - #90049; Daydreamer by Tula Pink #90028

Isacord Embroidery Thread per thread chart of your chosen design collection
Background fabric for blocks. I chose two different batik colors for my quilt. Calculate one hooping per design x 6 designs for the blocks.
To be safe you might want 2 yards of your background fabric.
Approximately a half yard for inner sashing and ? yard for outside borders.
Based on your finished quilt size you will need between 1/3  and 1/2 yard for binding.

Once your designs are finished we can trim them to the desired size and calculate the amounts of sashing, borders and binding fabrics.
